Choosing a Contractor

Hire the Best!

Choosing the right contractor can be confusing and time consuming.  If you are selling your home, there is typically a lot of pressure to find someone who will do the job quickly and effectively.  Let the professional staff of At Home Radon help you sort out your options.

Licensing:

First and foremost, in Ohio, the contractor MUST BE licensed by the State of Ohio as a radon contractor and radon specialist. This assures that he is properly trained and certified to help with your radon mitigation needs. Any contractor of good standing, will be listed on the ODH (Ohio Department of Health) website and be happy to show you his credentials. Some companies operate by having the owner or manager as the only one who has received state-accredited training. Their employees are working under a contractor’s license. By law, a licensed specialist must be on-site when your home is being mitigated.

At Home Radon is proud that every one of our technicians are state certified and can easily design a system or alter an existing system design, if you should decide to make changes from the original proposal. We are unique also in that our installers can design a system, give you a comprehensive estimate, and install the system on the same day.  This is especially helpful for the homeowner that does not have time for several appointments.

Experience:

At Home Radon backs its work with years of construction, carpentry and design experience.  We install hundreds of mitigation systems each year in homes all over the tri-state. Our extensive building experience makes us uniquely qualified to understand the construction of your home and the most effective way to mitigate for radon.

Radon Mitigation Standards (RMS):

The EPA set up a series of standards and protocols to ensure every home is effectively and safely mitigated. The radon contractor you choose should agree to follow and should be able to explain these standards to you during your consultation. This will ensure you have a legal basis for resolving improper installation techniques. At Home Radon follows the EPA’s radon mitigation standards.  Your home is our #1 priority.
If everyone follows the Radon Mitigation Standards, then shouldn’t price be my only consideration?
No, If you are concerned about an effective, properly installed, durable, and aesthetically pleasing installation, then price will not be the only consideration. One contractor may cut corners in materials and routing in contrast to what a more conscientious contractor might do. Some companies, you won’t see again after the installation. Make sure you choose a company with a proven track record and glowing references.
At Home Radon is proud to be a company that truly is concerned with the health of your family. Our vision is to have every home tested in America. That’s why we provide public awareness education, conduct Realtor education meetings, and more importantly, we are there for your post mitigation needs and questions. We often are called to repair other companies failing systems as needed.

ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIPS

Always check the company reputation with organizations such as the Better Business Bureau (BBB), Angie's List and your State Department of Health. Are they active members of national trade associations, such as OARP, AARST, and NRSP? At Home Radon is actively involved with these organizations on a state and national level. We take our job seriously, so you can be assured you have selected the right contractor.

OTHER FACTORS TO CONSIDER

Transferable Warranty

Does the company provide a transferable warranty that safeguards the occupants of the home even if ownership changes after installation. At Home Radon does.

Flexibility

How quickly can the company resolve your radon issues? At Home radon has the fastest response time in the area.

Hidden Fees

Is their price a "one price only” estimate or do they have hidden conditions, if they have to come back and do more work to reduce your radon levels? With At Home Radon, there are no hidden fees. We’ll let you know up front what to expect.
All experienced respectable companies will usually quote within $50-$100 of each other. If you get an extremely low price beware. The old saying is so true, "You get what you pay for.”

At Home Radon is always concerned with providing you the most cost-effective system and our prices reflect that, however you will always find some company to do the job cheaper. Ask yourself , why? The biggest compliment we get over and over again is, "The other guys were cheaper than you, but we want to go with your company, we trust you more!”
